Start Period Adjustment

To provide flexibility to the user, Start Period Adjustment can optionally truncate leading data (typically zeroes) and shift the remaining opportunity input data forward. The number of time periods truncated can be unique to each opportunity.

Where Start Period Adjustment is used, Portfolio will use the original start time periods to revise the Base Selections.

Start Period Adjustment functionality is available in Excel and Planning Space data sources but differs slightly between them. Enersight has the option to time-normalize input data from the Export profile builder.

Excel Data Sources

Opportunity start periods may be shifted to the first non-zero period of a selected metric. Enable the feature with the slider, then input the metric name or select it from the dropdown. All input data prior to the first non-zero period will be truncated for each opportunity, and the remaining data will be shifted forward. The original start period will be set as the Base Selection period.

Note that indicators should be repeated in each time period or loaded separately to avoid being deleted by truncation.

Planning Space Data Sources

By default, the system start date variable from Planning Space will apply to each project as the Base Selection. However, different variables may be applied to adjust this date.

The Process tab in the mapping template allows the user to further customize project start dates and base selections. Each subsequent variable selection will override previous ones.

Projects may not be shifted forward such that they would start prior to the portfolio start date. Any such indication by a variable will be ignored.

Projects with start dates before the start date of the portfolio cannot be shifted.

Apply Base Selections to a Scenario

Portfolio will store the opportunity start timing as Base Selections. Base Selections are those that may be applied to any scenario to quickly re-create a “Base Case”:
